Intended communication & assumptions

While driving to class yesterday I pulled up behind a car that had a bumper sticker that read; "I love someone with down syndrome". I realized that this was a form of non-verbal communication and the message was intended for those that read it, to know that this person cared for a human being with a disability. Not knowing this person, my assumptions after reading this bumper sticker were that this person was proud of this message, this message was reaching out to others who had similar circumstances, or that I was to feel sorry for this person. All things considered, the bumper sticker was a good example of intended communication and how assumptions can perceive different meanings.
